I like to believe that we are all meant to be doing something here on earth that is in alignment with our true selves. That we all have a calling or several callings during our journey through life. Perhaps that comes across as naieve but what’s wrong with those rose-tinted spectacles anyway? When we are doing and being in a way that is true to ourselves, we are feel joyful, expansive and energised. We are at a our best and shaping a better society for all. A society where we respect each other’s differences, where there is democracy, tolerance and equality and collaboration. My mission is to connect you with your truths and see and respect others’ truths to create a more joyful world. I use some of my earnings to offer a free 12-week programme (Acting, Design Your Life or Therapy) to someone who could not normally afford the fee but is highly motivated and would greatly benefit.
I was brought up in London as a mixed heritage kid by a single mum. So right from the start me and my sister were ‘different’. I didn’t feel that I fitted in as either ‘black’ or ‘white’. This childhood feeling of ‘not belonging’ has been an ongoing theme for me and has drawn me to advocate and work on behalf of others who feel marginalised. It has also led to my strong belief and passion for equality, tolerance and inclusion.
After doing well at school I found myself in my early 20s drifting and not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. The trouble was I had no idea what my true needs, wants and values were. On a 3-month trip to Thailand with my best friend I found myself on a Koh Phangan beach at night sipping the local whisky under the moonlight and chatting to an older Australian sailor who was travelling the world and had stopped off in Thailand. He said something about us only having one life and needing to make the most of it. Nothing that original but his words rang in my ears for many years to come. I decided there and then that I would go back to the UK and find something to study so that I can be of benefit to the world. I chose Thai language and Development Studies at SOAS.
Being back in the UK did not bring the happy ever after I wanted in terms of relationships. After repeating the same negative relationship patterns over and over again I found myself in therapy. However in therapy the biggest topic of conversation was not feeling happy in my work life as a project manager for a Not-for Profit training organisation. This is when I did my first career pivot and decided to do the 5-year Gestalt Therapy training which included 8 years of personal therapy.
And then two years ago after a failed IVF and the ending of a relationship I found myself at my desk one gloomy September feeling flat and uninspired. I had a successful private therapy practice and yet the thought of carrying on doing the same old thing for the next 20 years made my heart drop. I started brainstorming what I could do instead. I asked myself, if money was no object, what would I do with myself. I realised I would only do things that energise me, uplift and give me joy. I took up acting. I also started to develop this business which I’m passionate about. I trust that my passion and energy will help you live your truest, happiest life too.
